Wash Park

Besides City Park, Washington Park (Wash Park),  is probably the most popular urban city greenspace in Denver. Located approximately 15 minutes or 5 miles south of downtown Denver, the residents of Wash Park and Wash Park West have a little oasis for pre or after-work activities, such as cycling, hiking, walking the dog and even kayaking or fishing on Smith Lake. The park itself is 155 acres, and has two beautiful formal flower gardens, as well as a lawn bowling club. It is definitely worth seeing even if you’re just visiting. The homes in Wash Park and Wash Park West are charming and well kept. Many have been tastefully renovated, including 19th Century brick tudors, ranch or victorian style homes, and the occasional newer contemporary duplex.

Unique to Wash Park is that it is flanked on three sides by popular shopping, dining and unique local shops (South Pearl St to the west, S Gaylord St to the east and Alameda to the north). Some of my personal favorites are Homegrown Tap and Dough.

Between having adorable homes, a huge green space and walkability to restaurants, live music, festivals and boutique shopping, Wash Park is a top choice for neighborhoods in the downtown Denver area. Considering it’s only 5 miles south of downtown, and has still maintained it’s unique character and neighborhood appeal, it’s no wonder the demand continues to be high in Wash Park. For all these reasons, prepare to pay an extra premium per square foot, as well as to budget a little TLC, maintenance or repairs that often comes with buying an older, historic home.

Once you visit Wash Park, experience it’s charm, walk/bike the local shops and cute neighborhoods, it will be hard not to fall in love.
